Tom Cramer Statement on the 2010 Primary

I want to thank the 15,000 voters who supported my campaign and I would like to publicly congratulate Suzan Del Bene for winning the majority of the vote in the Democratic side of the 2010 Primary. I believe that having a competitive Democratic primary is good for the Democratic Party as it turns out thousands of Democratic voters who otherwise would have skipped the Primary and it allows issues to be debated which otherwise may have been ignored.   I ask my supporters to work hard to support Suzan Del Bene in her race against Dave Reichert and to support Patty Murray in her race against Dino Rossi. It is important for all Democrats to work together to maintain control of Congress.

 Sincerely, Tom Cramer

I believe that the so-called “Health Care Reform” bill does not go nearly far enough either in increasing access to health care or controlling costs. I believe that access to health care is a basic inalienable human right. Without this right, there can be no right to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” - rights our nation was founded on.

Our current health care system is the Most Expensive and Least Effective health care system in the world. Thousands of people in our country are needlessly killed every year just because they lost their job and lost their health insurance. Thousands more lose their homes and life savings just to pay for a sudden illness.

The only way to expand coverage to everyone and control costs is through universal health care, also known as a Single Payer system – similar to what is offered in Canada and nearly every other civilized country in the world. I am therefore honored to take the “Medicare for All” Pledge created by Dr. Quentin Young. Dr. Young has for many years been one of our nation’s foremost advocates for Universal Health Care. I am proud to support his call for true health care reform. The following is a letter I received from Dr. Young describing the Pledge:

June 25, 2010

Dear Mr. Cramer,
As promised, I am sending the Medicare for All Pledge…

Pledge to Support Medicare for All:

“I support expanding and improving our nation’s popular Medicare program to include all people in America. Our current patchwork of private profit-driven insurance companies will be replaced with a streamlined financing mechanism that will redirect over $400 billion annually that is currently lost to paperwork and administration. These billions would finance health care for all the nation’s 46 million uninsured. Health care is a human right, and health care coverage should be a public good, not a private commodity. “

Regards, Quentin Young, MD

I believe in Medicare for All. It is time to stop allowing Wall Street to kill people just so greedy corporate executives can make billions in undeserved profits.

Sincerely,

Tom Cramer, Democratic candidate for Congress, Washington State 8th Congressional District

Why I am running for Congress

I am a middle class guy running for Congress to fight for Main Street and middle class jobs. Middle class taxes must be cut in half to the rate of the 400 richest individuals pay. We must have the same financial security and prosperity that Wall Street enjoys. We took it on the chin to rescue the economy, but no longer. I will fight for new good paying jobs that are safe and secure here in America for Americans.

Reichert Wants More Tax Breaks for Billionaires!

Dave Reichert made a plea to end taxes on billionaires in his article on February 17 in the Tacoma News Tribune. In addition, he called for tax credits for the companies these billionaires own. He knows full well that people of the largest wealth pay their taxes on the lower capital gains rate of 15%. If the government eliminates capital gains taxes these people will pay no federal taxes. In addition, he proposes tax credits for the companies they own. With this proposal, the richest Americans will get credits for their companies that are doing business around the world and exporting jobs.

In Dave Reichert's world, the wealthy should be paid by government policies that ensure the safety and security of their money while our jobs are hijacked out of the country. While this happens, middle class Americans should continue to pay higher taxes to reduce the deficits created by the failed Republican economic policies of the past. Dave Reichert is the paid servant of billionaires.

Please vote for me to restore justice to our tax system. Let's tax everyone fairly, including billionaires, and fight for the rights of middle class Americans who are being destroyed by Dave Reichert and Republican fiscal policies.

Reichert Too Extreme for Working Families

Dave Reichert voted 84.2% with the Republican minority in the last year. He voted for the drug companies and against seniors on Medicare. He voted for extending the War in Iraq even when the public wanted to bring the troops home. He also voted to double foreign worker importation in the form of H-1B visas, while voting for funds in free trade agreements and the provisions to increase immigration and the importation of foreign workers.

A true extremist, he voted against bringing the troops home from Iraq. He voted no on HR2956, a bill to bring troops home. He also voted yes on HR2206, a bill to fund troops without a withdrawal deadline. In both cases, Democrats voted for bringing the troops home.

On the other hand, he voted against seniors and for drug company profits. On HR4 he voted against legislation to help seniors on Medicare with lower prescription drug costs. The bill would have allowed the government to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for seniors on Medicare. Almost all Democrats and even 24 Republicans voted for the bill, but not Dave Reichert.

Finally, when Main Street middle class Americans badly need jobs in the worst recession in 76 years, Dave Reichert has supported legislation to import cheaper foreign labor for high tech jobs. He co-sponsored HR1930 which would vastly raise the cap on foreign workers and make their employment permanent. In addition, he supported using American dollars in free trade agreements used to import foreign workers. He voted against the free trade amendment that would have prohibited the use of funds and the increased immigration of foreign workers.

Dave Reichert is an extremist supporting big business and Wall Street against the needs of normal Main Street middle class Americans. Let's stop this extremist and help me to fight for Main Street.
